Demodern develops product configurator for start-up helmade

Hamburg, March 29, 2016 – Individualization and co-creation are trending topics in motorsport, from professionals to hobbyists: A helmet is now both a lifesaver and a trademark. However, the selection of individual designs has been limited so far.

This is now changing. With the web configurator from the start-up helmade at www.helmade.com, two- and four-wheel riders can now design their helmets themselves using a 3D configurator. They can choose from numerous design lines and colors – whether matte, glossy, or with effect colors. A personal signature and variable accessories are also possible. Users can seamlessly rotate the designed helmet 360 degrees, view their individual product from all sides, and then order it via the integrated online shop. Helmets can also be designed on-the-road: The helmade configurator runs via the browser, mobile on smartphones or on large-format displays that helmade uses at trade shows and events, for example.

The configurator was developed and realized by the digital agency Demodern. Alexander El-Meligi, Managing Partner at Demodern in Hamburg: “The great advantage of this configurator is that customers can truly see and design the product on any device that they will later receive – without significant color and design differences.” Many web configurators so far only allow a view from different angles or work only limitedly on mobile devices. To achieve better performance as well as color and detail accuracy, the digital specialists implemented 3D models in WebGL. This ensures smooth 360-degree rotation of the products and intuitive design. The technically demanding integration of the configurator with the e-commerce system Magento ensures smooth sales – and after-sales processes.

For the helmade configurator, Demodern was responsible for the concept and creative development, which included interface design and the implementation of UX and interaction. The 3D models were created in cooperation with 747 Studios from Hamburg. In addition, Demodern is responsible for the helmade image film, shot together with the Hamburg film production jamsession.

The collaboration between Demodern and helmade continues: The configurator will soon receive a direct virtual reality connection and will provide users with a completely new shopping experience via Google Cardboard.
