Lots of Creative Technology and a Sneak Peek into the Discovery Dock: That was the Demodern Showroom in Hamburg

At our showroom event, we consistently showcase innovative technologies and creative high-end solutions that you can touch and experience. Our visitors can draw inspiration from the latest trends and use cases and explore with our experts in concept, design, and development how we bring ideas and technologies to life. For this, we have transformed our beloved workshop on Hamburg's Schulterblatt into a micro-amusement park. Both young and old came by and can still float in virtual reality over the clouds of various cities, configure the IKEA showroom in real-time VR or the dream car at the smart Cities Retail Table, play digital pinball at will, let a small diver swim through a virtual underwater world, or get a sneak peek into the Discovery Dock. Exclusively, our visitors could already get to know and try out two of the exhibits before the official opening of the mixed-reality world.

VR Swing, digital pinball, or Jump'n'Run and Jump'n'Swim in a virtual underwater world - Demodern Micro-Amusement Park opens

Our VR Swing is already known beyond our office boundaries - it hangs in our offices, and visitors have always been able to dangle their legs over Berlin, Hamburg, or Cologne. For Lufthansa's trade fair appearance at the ITB, we expanded this immersive VR swing in collaboration with Kolle Rebbe and developed an exclusive virtual reality travel experience. Our showroom and trade fair visitors could and can view Vienna, Cape Town, New York, or San Francisco in virtual reality from above. Just put on the VR headset, select a destination, and start swinging.

Exclusive Sneak Peek into the Discovery Dock

Even before the official opening of the Discovery Dock on May 13 by Hamburg's Mayor Peter Tschentscher, our showroom visitors could exclusively get to know two of the stations. The Discovery Dock is an interactive permanent exhibition about the Port of Hamburg. Together with DuMont Media Group, we transformed an empty space directly opposite the Elbphilharmonie (short: Elphi) into an immersive, interactive live experience in less than a year, guiding the project from initial research through the idea to the final exhibition as the lead agency. Thanks to a unique choreography of mixed reality, projection mapping, and real-time data, visitors from Hamburg and around the world reach places in the port they would otherwise never have access to - and will not easily forget.

With a lot of attention to detail

In our showroom, visitors could use virtual reality to view a giant ship with a massive propeller in Europe's largest dry dock at the so-called "Blue Hour" and virtually control the lift platform themselves. For an even more impressive and immersive experience, you can clearly feel the upward and downward movements.

Our 3D artists have once again shown great attention to detail: In the dock, you can even see bullet holes from World War II. Pay attention to the wall.

On the hunt for smuggled goods

Have you always wanted to help customs find smuggled goods? Visitors to the Discovery Dock, as well as our showroom visitors, could use a 3D-printed flashlight equipped with a Vive Tracker to help customs or visitors search for smuggled goods like cocaine, alcohol, cigarettes, or even animals on an interactive wall. Yes, exactly, animals - and they are not exactly small.

Lose track of time while gaming...

...you can do that with us. After an exciting day at the Port of Hamburg, our visitors could then forget the day's strains with a game of pinball or demonstrate their jumping power on the balance board we built for a still-secret project of our new client Royal Caribbean. More on that soon...

In Hamburg, we say goodbye...

We hereby bid farewell and thank everyone who made the showroom in Hamburg possible. And for your information: The showroom is now permanently accessible. If interested, you can simply send us an email at hi@demodern.de. We look forward to it.
