At Oculus Connect 5, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg introduced the fourth VR headset: Oculus Quest. With the launch of their first all-in-one VR gaming system, they aim to usher in a new era in VR gaming. Oculus Quest brings immersive experiences for a completely new "type" of VR gamers. The headset will launch in spring 2019 (initially only in the USA) for 399 U.S. dollars. Oculus Quest operates without an external player, cables, and sensors, is mobile, and offers freedom of movement for head and hands.

Comfort for Strained Gamer Eyes

Oculus Quest features the same top-notch optics as Oculus Go with a screen resolution of 1600 x 1440 pixels per eye, and includes an adjustable lens spacing to maximize viewing comfort. Next-generation lenses with reduced glare and a wider field of view, along with integrated audio (optionally, a personal headphone can be connected to the VR headset), enable an immersive gaming experience without setup or PC.

Touch Controller as Intuitive as f...

With the same buttons, thumbsticks, and sensors that have defined VR gaming controllers so far, the intuitive touch controllers of Oculus Quest easily bring the user's hands into the VR experience, allowing them to interact simply and naturally with or within the (virtual) world.

NEW NEW NEW: Oculus Insight Tracking

The inside-out tracking system allows the player to capture, track, and navigate spaces, leading to a better sense of immersion, presence, and mobility in the VR experience. Four wide-angle cameras in the corners of the headset casing scan the environment in real-time, determine the player's position in the room, and track the two motion controllers.

Conclusion

With the launch of Oculus Quest, Oculus has completed the development of its first generation of best-in-class VR headsets. Oculus Go remains the simplest (and most affordable) way to enter a VR experience, and Oculus Rift leverages the power of the PC to push the boundaries of what is possible. (via Oculus Blog)
