In its tenth year, gamescom was held under the motto "Diversity Wins." Around 370,000 visitors from 114 countries, including 31,200 trade visitors, celebrated "The Heart of Gaming" in the Cologne exhibition halls, once again demonstrating the significance of gamescom as Europe's leading business platform for the games industry. The newly designed opening event with world premieres and political dignitaries attracted even more trade visitors than in previous years, and not only that: both the opening of gamescom and highlights such as the Debatt(l)e Royale, the presentation of the gamescom awards, as well as events from gamescom and exhibitors were streamed on "experience gamescom live". Another highlight during gamescom was the illumination along the Cologne Rhine promenade. Under the title "LIGHT IT UP!", the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the city of Cologne congratulated gamescom on its 10th anniversary.
