Goodbye 2019, hello 2020: A Brief Year in Review

The year is once again drawing to a close, and we're still feeling sluggish from all the chocolate and good food at Christmas. So let's just lazily lean back and take a few minutes to look back. There was the occasional showroom, the opening of the interactive permanent exhibition "Discovery Dock" in Hamburg right next to the Elbphilharmonie, our first game going on a big journey in Asia, many new, very creative and technically high-quality cases - and we managed to pick up one or two awards... Scroll through and let us show you what we mean by Creative Technology.

Royal Caribbean: A Game Sets Sail

An interactive video game on one of the largest cruise ships in the world: With "Sasu's Mystical Quest", we developed an exciting and technically innovative game for Royal Caribbean International, which is now available on board the "Spectrum of the Seas". Additionally, we designed, developed, and produced special hardware - a weight-controlled, LED-equipped controller board.

Grand Opening of Our First Permanent Exhibition in Hamburg Harbor

With the goal of enabling unseen perspectives and unique experiences around the Hamburg harbor, our teams, together with the client DuMont and numerous partners from business, politics, and science, developed the vision of an interactive, forward-looking exhibition. After just nine months in an agile project, the Discovery Dock opened in spring 2019 right in the heart of Hamburg's HafenCity, in close proximity to the Elbphilharmonie. The exhibition was opened by Hamburg's Mayor Peter Tschentscher.

Ladies, Wine & Design Hamburg #10: "New Tech" Panel in Our Workshop in Hamburg

In February 2019, we were proud hosts of the 10th edition of the discussion series Ladies, Wine & Design Hamburg. "Ladies, Wine & Design" was founded by Jessica Walsh to promote exchange among women in the creative industry and aims to transform existing competition into mutual support through conversations and creative meet-ups. The initiative is now present in more than 200 locations, Hamburg being one of them. Thanks to our Hannah, we had the honor of hosting edition #10 in our Hamburg workshop. Alongside her, three other powerful women shared and discussed their experiences as women in the tech and advertising industry with around 40 (female) guests.

Burial and Resurrection of Our Long-Term Automotive Project: The Realtime Configurator for smart

simple, radical, liberating - these are the brand values of smart and at the same time our principle for the new smart configurator and the interactive 3D visualizer modules, which showcase the newly introduced and now fully electric smart facelift in a completely new light since October 2019. Users can interact with the vehicle in 3D using WebGL technology at several points on the website and learn more about the smart.

Bauhaus100: Facefilter for Facebook & Co

As part of the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus movement, we developed a series of AR face filters together with the German National Tourist Board, creatively and technologically reinterpreting the aesthetic legacy of Bauhaus members and spreading it worldwide as a cultural movement via social media according to the democratic principle. The series includes over 20 face filters that distort, decorate, or deconstruct the face, inspired by the diverse currents in art, photography, product design, and architecture. Each filter is inspired by a Bauhaus representative - ranging from Walter Gropius to Wassily Kandinsky to Paul Klee and Johannes Itten.

IFA 2019: Demodern Realizes Interactive Installations for Telekom, Bosch, and Mazda

Interactive multitouch tables and terminals, an unexpected augmented reality world, and a chatbot: With a total of five innovative trade fair experiences for three clients, we were present at the International Consumer Electronics Fair (IFA) in Berlin in 2019.

Permanent Showrooms in Cologne and Hamburg

Knowing that our installations and interactive exhibits are best tested live and in color, springtime has always been showroom time for us. And so in 2019, we once again invited people to our Cologne and Hamburg offices - this year focusing on retail and entertainment. To bring some life - and light - to the dark November just before Christmas, we quickly transformed our studio on the Cologne Vulkan site into a permanent showroom, while the workshop in Hamburg has been one for quite some time.

Awards, Awards, Awards...

German Digital Award, LIA, ADC, FWA of The Day, and so on and so forth: In recent months, we have once again received recognition from juries and/or experts - on top of that, we got a "super cool" selfie with Edeka man Friedrich Lichtenstein. A big thanks also goes to Kolle Rebbe, with whom we jointly developed and implemented our Virtual Reality Experience for PETA. At the end of the award year, we landed in 14th place in the creativity ranking by HORIZONT and in 13th place in the ranking by W&V.

CHEERS & LET'S KEEP PUSHING THINGS FORWARD TOGETHER IN 2020.
