Technical Background
The core element of the Buddy Mode is the 3D models of the players. For this, Timothy Chandler and Nicolai Müller were digitized using a 3D scanner. To animate the models, we "rigged" them, giving them a virtual skeleton that can be moved. The model is controlled by an actor in a motion capture suit in real-time - similar to the methods used by major film studios in Hollywood.
Analog and Digital Souvenir
When a photo is taken, the image is automatically uploaded, a QR code is generated, and a printout with this code is created. Users thus have both an analog keepsake in the form of a printout and the digital image for sharing, which they can easily access via the QR code. 500 people were able to enjoy a very personal memento this way.
