The VR Days Europe 2018 took place from October 24 to 26 in Amsterdam - the leading European conference on innovation and creativity in the field of virtual (VR), augmented (AR), and mixed reality. We couldn't miss it. We learned about new products and projects, looked into the future, engaged in a bit of small talk here and there, and met good old acquaintances like the Birdly flight simulator...

The Future of XR Technologies
Over 550 delegates filled the auditorium at the DeLaMar Theater during the conference in Amsterdam. More than 20 speakers from art, business, healthcare, storytelling, and other disciplines discussed the role of XR technologies - both for the present time and how they will develop in the future. Mel Slater, Co-Director of the Event Lab at the University of Barcelona, spoke about how VR can allow one to experience life in another body. Miriam Reiner, Head of the VR and Neurocognition Lab at the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, explained how VR and AR can be used to enhance mental performance. Marie Jourdren, Chief Creative Officer of DVGroup, talked about the emerging immersive entertainment industry that combines VR with techniques from theater, film, and games. Additionally, visitors could also experience an exhibition area with 60 companies and extraordinary VR experiences.

This Was VR Days 2018
Benjamin de Wit, founder of VR Days Europe, commented: “The fourth edition of VR Days Europe was another step towards a true industry event where realities truly meet. Researchers, artists, developers, companies, and the VR and AR community came together to be inspired, create new content, listen to great speakers, meet at 'Round Tables' and networking events, form new partnerships, and conduct business."

This year's event focused more on practical applications of XR technologies in business, including many other industries. De Wit added: "What we are seeing now is how XR solutions have permeated all areas of traditional business, and numerous industries are already taking advantage of the opportunities presented."

It Must Be Immersive
In the Church of VR, a fascinating selection of 40 VR works from around the world was presented, some of which celebrated their European or world premiere. All these works demonstrated how VR can be used to tell the most diverse stories: dramatic, playful, personal, reflective, inspiring - and always immersive.
