Event Guide

An interactive 3D guide made navigation at Cisco Live immediate and intuitive.

Visitors can easily get lost in large exhibition halls and need quick, visual assistance.
At Cisco Live in Las Vegas, the size of the hall led to information overload. The goal was to reduce search time, increase satisfaction, and efficiently direct visitor flows. Relevant KPIs included average find time, number of personalized tours, and user satisfaction at the touchpoint.
The deliverable was a gesture-controlled 3D event guide, integrated into the event space.
An interactive 3D event guide ran on large-format touchscreens and displayed the hall, presentations, and exhibitors at a glance.

The virtual 3D map showed the current location, allowed free zooming and gesture control, and visually guided visitors to presentations and booths. Paths were displayed directly, enabling orientation and navigation in seconds.

Personalized tours made event recommendations immediately relevant.
Pre-registration via a website and RFID badges created individual profiles. Favorites were displayed on the screen, personal routes were configured, and sent via MMS with a detailed map to the smartphone, ensuring the personal agenda was always at hand.
The search utilized metadata to suggest thematically related presentations and exhibitors, enabling new discoveries.
Intuitive search provided relevant results instead of mere hit lists.

Clear icons, large areas, and a guided walkthrough with animations made the operation self-explanatory. Tooltips and visual cues helped, especially in the loud, public space, to understand the interaction immediately.

Technically, the system ran locally on 12 kiosks with offline failover and connection to the RFID system. The most important learning was that visual clarity and simple onboarding increased acceptance more than many additional features. The solution made orientation noticeably faster and increased trust in attending the event.
