A 3D configurator makes KALLAX experienceable online.

Customers needed a tangible tool for the wide variety of KALLAX.
The modular product world offers many colors, sizes, and inserts, but online there was a lack of an interface that seamlessly connects combination, visualization, and purchase. The goal was a solution with visual brilliance, high performance, and a user experience that translates inspiration directly into purchases.

The interactive WebGL configurator displays every KALLAX element photorealistically in 3D.
The prototype provides presets, a shuffle mode as an entry point, free movement and rotation of elements, as well as a touch-optimized interface. More than 30 shelf variants and over 40 inserts can be visually planned, saved, and directly transferred to the shopping cart. User feedback emphasizes fun and clarity in planning.

The entry invites exploration in the familiar IKEA spirit: changing presets offer immediately tangible starting points that users can take over and further customize with a tap. This translates inspiration seamlessly into individual planning without overwhelming users with technical options.

Technology and interface create a fluid, app-like experience.
The implementation followed clear phases: Discover, Prototype, Build, and Launch. Key were ultra-realistic lighting and textures alongside optimized assets, intuitive UI patterns like snapping and filtering, as well as short loading times, so that the browser experience feels like a native app.

Multichannel and an intelligent backend make the system maintainable and scalable.
The solution allows saving and seamless continuation between smartphone, desktop, and in-store terminals, as well as direct transfer to the shopping cart. Product data and prices are automatically updated via a parser, and integrating new 3D data and preset updates takes only a few minutes.
Less visible technology means more planning enthusiasm for users.
The most important insight was that technical excellence must stand behind a simple, playful interface. Focus on performance, realistic representation, and an inviting onboarding entry increased dwell time and made configuring enjoyable again.
