We extended the international dance fair NRW into the digital realm.
A hybrid, web-based event space connects the scene and the audience.
The international dance fair brings together thousands of industry professionals each year. The goal was to enable digital encounters, maintain the festival branding, and create space for curated artistic content. Success was measured by participant numbers, duration of stay, and user engagement.
We delivered a branded digital space based on our ve.-platform, including a curated program, customizable avatars, interactive audio landscapes, and video walls. On-site, the experience was also accessible via WebVR on Meta Quest 2.
A digital space, curated, interactive, and easily accessible.
Avatars and audio landscapes ensured social presence: users entered with personalized avatars and communicated directly via video call in designated audio areas. The diverse options reflected the diversity claim of the dance fair.
Barrier-free VR access directly in the browser.
The integration of WebVR allowed access via the Oculus web browser without app installation, significantly lowering the threshold for visitors. 30 headsets were used on-site, resulting in 700 unique sessions with an average duration of over 14 minutes.
Built on the modular ve.-platform with a WebVR extension, React‑XR kept the setup compatible and easy to use, so volunteers could run headsets after brief training and visitors join quickly.
The dance fair presented a digital program for the first time, bringing together exhibitors, artists, and the audience. Organizational feedback highlighted the recognizability of the branding and the intense interaction, while visitors praised the new perspectives on dance.
The digital offering was intensively used and positively evaluated.
