Vacuuming can actually be fun.
We turned vacuuming into a playground.
In the home office, piles of laundry and dust accumulated, and motivation was low. As a design challenge, we built a prototype that makes cleaning visible and motivating. Success criteria included noticeable progress and an immediate sense of reward while vacuuming.
DustBustAR transforms vacuuming into a spatial AR game: virtual coins appear on the floor, collected areas are visually marked, and users can instantly see where they have already cleaned and what still needs attention.
Vacuuming becomes a rewarding AR game.
The prototype combines AR overlays with a progress layer and simple collection mechanics. The interaction is intentionally low-threshold: aim the camera at the floor, collect coins, see feedback. The goal was a proof-of-concept, not a final product.
Short demo: A brief video shows the UX flow while vacuuming, the appearance of coins, and the visualization of already cleaned surfaces. The demo makes the motivation and immediate feedback experience directly tangible.
Tech and interaction create the experience.
The process followed Discover → Prototype → Build → Launch: space measurement, spatial anchors, AR overlay, and iterative testing. Key components were stable tracking, visible progress layers, and quick feedback loops that guide user behavior.
The experiment clearly showed that visible rewards and simple interaction make everyday tasks more attractive. Technically, the precision of spatial anchoring is crucial. Next, we recommend user testing, performance optimization, and testing social reward mechanics.
Prototype confirms effectiveness and outlines the next steps.
