The Recycling Challenge makes circular economy experiences playful.
Traditional exhibitions do not reach young visitors.
Rossmann wanted to inspire young visitors for recycling while simultaneously strengthening the brand as a sustainable employer. The challenge was to convey complex processes in an understandable and engaging way while achieving clear engagement goals.
The solution was an interactive game installation consisting of four touch-based mini-games that replicate real recycling steps. Visually, the installation combines a handcrafted paper-cut look with stop-motion-like animations.
We delivered a modular game installation with clear KPIs.
The game was seamlessly integrated into the trade show booth.
Screens placed at eye level, natural materials, and green accents created an inviting interaction space. Collaboration with Event-IT ensured stable technology, simultaneous play, and a central point of contact for visitors.
The Recycling Challenge consists of four missions: waste separation, shredding, puzzle upcycling, and shelf sorting in the Rossmann shop. Each mission is designed to be intuitive and educational, allowing players to experience the steps of the recycling cycle in a playful manner.

In the process, we went through Discover, Prototype, Build, and Launch, refining mechanics and visuals in rapid iterations. The magic moment occurred when tactile visuals met simple touch mechanics, triggering immediate understanding and joy in participation.
Gamification achieved measurable learning success and high usage.
In five days, 1,375 rounds were played, equating to 84 hours of gameplay, with an engagement rate of over 80%. These results demonstrate that playful experiences generate sustainable learning effects and positively associate with Rossmann.
The experience combines playful learning, brand strength, and future viability.
The installation is modular and future-proof, allowing it to be reused, adapted for other events, or expanded as a web version. At the same time, the setup provides clear usage data to measure educational effects and brand impact.
